Mark Ochenrider, MD, FACP

Medical Director, Washington Weight Loss Network

Dr. OchenriderDr. Ochenrider is an internal medicine and obesity medicine specialist.  He is board-certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Obesity Medicine.  He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.  Dr. Ochenrider first came to Seattle in 2000 for medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  After obtaining his medical degree, he then completed an internal medicine residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center, where he later trained incoming resident physicians and received one of the “Top Teachers of Internal Medicine” awards.

Dr. Ochenrider has been providing high-quality comprehensive primary care and hospital/critical care internal medicine since 2008.  He spends approximately 70% of his time in primary care and obesity medicine, and the other 30% of his time working as a hospital/critical care internal medicine physician.  Dr. Ochenrider’s combined clinic and hospital experience gives him a unique perspective on the prevention and treatment of medical illnesses.  In 2015, Seattle-area physicians voted him as one of the “Top Doctors” in Internal Medicine in the Seattle metropolitan area.

In his primary care practice, Dr. Ochenrider sees many of the complications of weight-related conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, chronic pain, degenerative joint disease, depression, etc.  This is what fueled his passion to find better solutions for people with weight-related problems, and in 2013 he started our diet and coaching based weight loss clinic using the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method.  This eventually became the Washington Weight Loss Network, which consists of three Ideal Protein weight loss clinics working in cooperation.

In June 2016, he and his family moved to his home state of Montana, where he works in primary care and obesity medicine as well as hospital/critical care medicine.  However, he has remained active in our medical community in the Kirkland and Bellevue area, and continues to serve as Medical Director for the three Ideal Protein clinics that make up the Washington Weight Loss Network.  He also regularly travels to meet with local Kirkland, Redmond and Bellevue physicians and community leaders, as well as weight loss coaches, continuing his work to further the prevention and treatment of weight-related medical conditions.  His goal is to serve the Eastside and Seattle area communities by helping people with weight-related conditions to lose weight and improve their health and quality of life.

Dr. Ochenrider: “I grew up near Kalispell, Montana and decided that I wanted to become a physician when I was 16 years old. Even at a young age, I was passionate about helping people in a way that was hands-on. I also wanted to work in a field that would provide an ongoing challenge and remain exciting over a long career. After volunteering at free health clinics, in local emergency departments, and other medical settings, I became convinced that becoming a physician was a great fit for who I am...and this certainly has proved to be true.

I believe that people are precious. I care deeply about the whole person. I really love helping people understand more about their own health. My goal is that our patients are empowered to take care of themselves by better understanding their own health.

I also believe that I need to practice what I preach. I follow my own recommendations for healthy living, which has always given me the reputation amongst my friends as being a health-nut. I keep in mind my own need to balance work, rest, and time to play with my family as I actively pursue becoming a better husband, father, friend, and physician.”
